The Process
I was initially drawn to suprematist works for their intense flatness and striking color scheme.  The following images lead the process of sketching and iterating until I finally reached an idea that I felt I could start building.
This drawing ended up being a vertical structure with rings and rectangular shapes connected to the body in order to have a strong central structure with contrasting geometric elements.
While the first cardboard iteration proved to be fairly successful, creating the wooden and final product introduced problems with balance and weight distribution. I decided to cut the rectangles and focus on how the body interacts with itself as well as the rings. The joints of the body were circle cut in a way that hinged each wooden plane, and the circles were simply hung off of the central structure.
